For the second year in a row a bill in Illinois is heading to the Governor’s desk seeking to raise the tobacco purchase age to 21. Senate Bill 21 has passed by a vote of 39-16 after passing the house two days earlier by a vote of 82-31.
In 2018 a similar bill passed only to be vetoed by outgoing Governor Bruce Rauner. Now the fate of the bill sits on the desk of Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker who has not hinted if he will sign it. A spokeswoman has stated the Governor “looks forward to reviewing the legislation.”
