This week, Independence, Missouri has voted to raise the tobacco products purchase age from 18 to 21. The move comes a month after neighboring cities Kansas City, MO and Kansas City, KS passed similar measures.
The City Council met on Monday December 21 and voted 6-1 to pass the new ordinance that was launched by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce campaigned entitled, “Tobacco 21KC.”
The lone voice of reason was by Councilwoman Karen Deluccie who believes that a person is of legal age at 18 and has the right to make their own decisions in life.
