The Look: The cigars from LFD are dark with thin veins and this is no different. The Oscuro wrapper is glistening with oils, and it just might be the oiliest oscuro wrapper around. The red, black and gold band has the signature LFD logo and denotes ligero underneath. The cigar is well packed with a nice weight and no soft spots.
The Notes: The cold draw on the La Flor Dominicana Ligero Oscuro has a delicious sweetness that borders on maple syrup and molasses. The sweetness is a bit misleading on what is about to come. The aroma off the foot is cedar with a slight vanilla bean.
As we smoke through the first third of the LFD L300 there is some spice through the nose with touches of earth and cedar. Occasionally there is a subtle sweetness that comes and goes especially on the aroma of the cigar but noting like what was experienced on the cold draw.
In the second third of the cigar as the burn line gets closer to your nostrils there is a wonderful warm chocolate aroma. The cedar notes remain with a touch of black pepper through the nose and a slightly earthy finish.
The last third is definitely the strongest of the thirds, with some notes of pepper, cedar and a dark coffee finish.
The Finish: There is something about the L300 that brings me back every time. I wouldn’t call it overly complex, but it is extremely consistent and when I want to smoke something on the full-bodied side, this is one of the cigars I will reach for.
