La Flor Dominicana Ligero “A” Cigar Review

At the 2018 IPCPR in Las Vegas, La Flor Dominicana offered two exclusive cigars for retailers who attended the trade show. Both those sizes have now landed at some of the shops that ordered them including 2GuysCigars.com. The cigars which are under the ligero umbrella feature a different wrapper from the regular line as well as Habana 2000 in the filler.

Cigar Review: La Flor Dominicana IPCPR Exclusive
Wrapper: Ecuador
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Dominican Republic (Inclusive Habana 2000)
Length: 9.5″
Ring Gauge: 47
Size: “A”

The Look: La Flor Dominicana not only changed up the tobacco, they change up the box with a gorgeous black on black box that features the silhouette of Lito Gome. Inside sits 10 “A” she cigar each in their only groove creating a beautiful presentation. The cigar features one solid leaf serving as the wrapper as is expected and a few veins visible with a nice amount of oils.

The Notes: The aroma off the foot of the cigar has a subtle molasses with an abundance of cedar while the cold draw has a touch of birch and the faintest wisp of molasses that serves as more of an afterthought.

Once the cigar is cut this first note offers a touch of molasses as we slide into the first third of the cigar. The notes are pretty straight forward with hints of cedar and birch with hints of nuts. The molasses comes and goes throughout the first third and the aroma of the cigar reminds me of nutmeg.

The second third continues down the same path with the introduction of some pepper notes. The focal point is wood that is reminiscent of cedar and birch with a subtle touch of molasses and a nutty aroma that continues to remind me of nutmeg.

The last third has the most pepper but the cigar continues to have notes of wood as the primary focal point. However the molasses note moved to the aroma of the cigar while the nutmeg shows up on the palate with a touch of espresso.

The Finish: An “A” size cigar requires a commitment and this is one cigar that I don’t mind making a commitment to. Yes, reading this review might make the cigar come off as boring with the lack of changes, but it works. It’s not the first time LFD has released an A, and those looking for that cigar might want to sit on these for a bit to help the molasses note come out further. However, this cigar is ready to be smoked and enjoyed now. It’s definitely box worthy and is limited in production.

Score: 94
Price: $23.99 / $215.99
