Another week, another show. This week one of the cigars we smoked on the podcast was the La Gianna Havana which was part of The Cigar Authority Care Package. As has become customary we share with you an in-depth review of the Churchill which was our second cigar of the show.
Cigar Review: La Gianna Havana
Wrapper: USA Connecticut
Binder: Honduras
Filler: Honduras
Length: 7″
Ring Gauge: 48
Size: Churchill
The Look: The La Gianna Havana comes packaged in a red dress box, with an old school feel to it. The inside and outside lid features a cliché of a cherub angel that matches the band of the cigar. Inside, the cigars are packaged in 3 rows. The USA Connecticut shade wrapper has some visible oils and a couple of thin veins present.
The Notes: The cold draw of the cigar and the foot are pretty much in sync. There are notes of butter, raisin and earth. They all are fairly balanced without one note standing out above the rest. Once the foot is toasted and lit the initial note is buttery smoothness.
Once the cigar is properly cut and lit, the notes from the cold draw cross over on this La Gianna Havana. There is a buttery richness mixed in with hints of raisins and earth. The retrohale of the cigar has some wood notes and a touch of pepper.
In the second third, nutty notes become the focal point of flavor profile. The buttery richness of the first third becomes more honey like and a touch of raisins remain.
On the final third of the cigar some earth becomes the focal point of the cigar with hints of cedar. There is still some honey like sweetness of this smooth and mild cigar with just enough spice on the retrohale to keep you interested if you like them a bit stronger.
The Finish: They say the vast majority of cigar smokers enjoy a mild cigar. From first hand experience this is a very true statement. If you like them mild this cigar is up your alley, but just because it’s mild doesn’t mean it reduces the complexity. It definitely serves as an enjoyable morning cigar on the back deck, or on the golf course.
