The Las Calaveras Edicion Limitada was perhaps the cigar of the year for limited editions last year. As a result, the EL 2015 is highly sought after and will be neck and neck with the Tatuaje M80 rerelease for the top limited edition release for 2015. The cigar was so popular that many retailers had their initial orders cut in order to fulfill the demand across the board.
This year some things have changed. The first being the edition of the a new size; a corona gorda measuring at 5.5 x 46 called the LC 46, and the second being a new wrapper with Ecuador Habano replacing the Oscuro of last year.

The Look: The cigar features a nice chestnut-brown wrapper with a fair amount of visible oils and some thin veins. The light cigar is rolled flawlessly and the band is light this year with no orange that was on last years version. The cigar simply stars Las Calaveras in the center, EL 2015 above and Esteli Nicaragua underneath. In the hand the cigar is firm though the foot seems a little undefiled.
The Notes: The cold draw of the cigar is earthy with hints of mocha. The foot of the cigar has notes of wood and a slight pepper that tingles the nostrils. Once the cigar is lit there are notes of wood and citrus.
Smoking into the first third of the Las Calaveras EL 2015 the notes of citrus come and go over a base of wood, and a wisp of mocha. There is also an element of nuts on the finish as the cigar transitions into the next third.
As we smoke the second third the citrus is still in play especially though the nose and it takes on an orange rind note. The base notes are earthy with nuts and the occasional cedar note.
The last third of the cigar continues with notes of earth and a slight floral component. The finish of the cigar is both woody and nutty and moderate in length.
The Burn: A slow burning Corona the cigar smoked for over 90 minutes. The combustion line on the cigar was razor-thin with a light color ash that held for a third at a time with a slight flake. The draw of the cigar was near perfect though for me it could have had a little more resistance. The cigar remained lit from first light to last puff.
The Finish: Comparison, it is something that is hard to avoid when smoking a Limited Edition, regardless if the blend has changed or not. If you are looking for the EL 2014, this is not that cigar. However, if you separate the two cigars they both perform well and stand on their own.
