The leaders of Cumberland Country are looking into expanding the existing smoking ban, and if it passes it could affect more places where the freedom to light up a cigar is permissible.
The county which recently passed a policy prohibiting smoking outside anywhere on the grounds of county buildings. The commission is looking to expand that to include bus stops, outdoor restaurant seating and common areas at apartment complexes.
According resident Don Kalb, “I think it’s stupid, how about all these cars driving up and down the street. Why don’t we take all the cars and put them in the garage and not let anyone drive. Would that make more sense?”
The new proposal could be ready for consideration and voted on next month.
Cumberland County is home to 324,000 residents over 658 square miles and was founded in 1754.
