The Florida Keys which is part of the Monroe County is facing a tobacco ban. The Monroe Country Commission has begun to implement its ban on employees using tobacco products. On Wednesday they will be meeting to approve contracts with two local medical facilities to conduct nicotine testing.
Stating on January 1, 2015 it will be impossible to get a county job if the applicant uses tobacco products. Meanwhile, existing employees will have until January 1, 2016 to quit using tobacco. Should they fail to quit they will need to pay a $50 monthly surcharge. If they lie about smoking, a second $50 penalty will be assessed.
Monroe County is home to 74,000 residents over 3,737 square miles and was founded in 1823.
