The city of Newburgh, located along the New York Thruway half-way between New York City and Albany is preparing what will be the most restrictive tobacco licensing in the state. The licensing was originally shelved out of fear of lawsuit and is now back on track.
The Newburgh City Council reviewed the proposals which will allow the city to limit the amount of licenses as well as reduce the number of licenses that currently exist.
All retailers will be eligible for a license in the first year, but the city will be able to reduce the licenses in follow years based on building codes and other non-disclosed criteria.
Newburgh, NY founded in 1709 is home over over 28,000 residents over 4.8 square miles
