The city commissioners in Woodward, Oklahoma passed an ordinance that prohibits the use of tobacco products on city owned property.
The lengthy ordinance prohibits tobacco use of any kind on any city property regardless if it is indoors or outdoors. The new measure will go into effect on January 2, 2015.
When asked by an area resident if this would create a situation where locals would become targeted by police City Manager Alan Riffel stated that the new law was a way to offer guidance and rule of law if someone complains about someone smoking.
Woodward, OK is home to 12,000 residents over 13.2 square miles and was founded in 1887.
