Liga Privada T52 Flying Pig Cigar Review

Originally released in 2010, the Liga Privada T52 Flying pig was the follow-up to the No. 9 Flying Pig. It’s part of the unico series from Drew Estate that includes the Dirty Rat, Ratzilla, L40, and Feral Flying Pig some of which are in stock at 2GuysCigars.com at the time of this review but given their limited release status they come and go on a regular basis.

Cigar Review: Liga Privada T52 Flying Pig
Wrapper: Connecticut Sun Grown Habano (Stalk Cut)
Binder: Brazilian Mata Fina
Filler: Nicaragua
Length: 4″
Ring Gauge: 60
Size: Flying Pig (Perfecto)

The Look: Packaged in 12 count boxes, the Flying Pig comes with 12 cigars on one level with six cigars on each side of the split box. The fat looking perfecto features a pig tail cap and the foot of the cigar seems like it is wrapped with the tobacco from a different leaf due to the contrasting color. It’s an oily specimen, and it is firm in the hand with no voids of tobacco. The cigar features the T52 band which is bronze, ivory and brown.

The Notes: Once the cap is clipped and I take a cold draw the first notes of are cedar, earth and a touch of hazelnut sweetness. The foot of the cigar has some subtle spice to it, but it lacks the complexity of the cold draw. Once the nipple is toasted and lit the initial draw serves up a wonderful clove like aroma with a taste of brown sugar that instantly reminded me of a ham cooking at Easter.

As we move into he first half of the Flying Pig T52 notes of clove continue with cedar, leather and coffee. As we move completely past the smaller foot into the full 60 ring gauge, the clove notes dissipate and the focal point of the cigar is leather. The cedar remains on the aroma of the cigar, and the lengthy finish is loaded with coffee.

The second third sees the leather notes pull back some as coffee moves into the dominant flavor profile. As the cigar begins to taper back down some, hints of clove begin to remerge with a bit of brown sugar. The finish of the cigar remains strong on coffee, and the complexity of the cigar was quite enjoyable.

The Finish: Every time I smoke a Flying Pig I feel like baby Finster from a Bugs Bunny cartoon. It took me a long time over the years to develop a love for these mainly due to the shape of the cigar. I rather smoke an L40 or Dirty Rat, but don’t get me wrong as those are just a size preference. The Liga Privada T52 is an enjoyable smoke that was a throwback to the glory days of the blend.

Score: 92
Price: $15.69 / $157.99
