Approximately 10 days ago we reported that Boston’s Mayor wanted to raise the tobacco purchase age from 18 to 21 joining other communities in Massachusetts. Next week that Boston Board of Health is expected to meet for a hearing that will see the creation of a plan to raise the smoking age.
Now according to numerous published reports, the lawmakers on a state level are contemplating bringing a change to Massachusetts and if the measure happens they would join Hawaii as the only states to raise the age from 18 to 21.
The efforts to raise the tobacco age is based on a March 2015 reports from the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies that came to the conclusion that 90% of daily smokers began before the age of 19.
The Cigar Authority will follow this closely and report back as warranted.
