Micallef Red

Micallef Red Toro Cigar Review

Micallef Red is the latest addition to Micallef’s Color Series, joining the popular Black and Blue lines as part of their regular production. Released in Fall 2024, this cigar offers an enticing blend at a value price, making it an attractive option for enthusiasts seeking quality without breaking the bank. Crafted in Nicaragua, the Micallef Red features a Mexican San Andrés Habano wrapper, Pennsylvania Broadleaf binder, and a filler blend of Mexican and Nicaraguan tobaccos.

Right from the start, the cigar presents a medium-rich brown wrapper with an oily sheen, fine toothiness, and minimal flat veins that appear as if they were iron-pressed. This construction gives it an elegant and inviting appearance, hinting at the well-crafted experience ahead.

Upon lighting, the first third delivers an immediate burst of cayenne and white pepper spice, waking up the palate with a bold kick. This spice gradually gives way to deep notes of black coffee, salt, bread, and cashews, layered with a touch of molasses and a subtle hint of citrus. The combination creates a dynamic and complex opening that keeps the smoker engaged.

Moving into the second third, the spice settles down, allowing the sweeter notes to take center stage. Buttered French toast and cinnamon emerge, adding a rich and comforting element to the profile. The nuttiness intensifies, and a slight mineral note appears, complemented by a lingering background of orange rind citrus.

In the final third, the flavors evolve once again. Cinnamon and toast remain dominant, but earthy undertones begin to develop. Salted almonds, leather, peanuts, and cedar create a balanced yet robust finish. Graham cracker notes adds a slight sweetness, while the pepper spice fades entirely, leaving behind a smooth and refined conclusion.

Overall, Micallef Red Toro delivers a mouthwatering smoking experience. The draw is excellent, producing a generous smoke output that enhances the enjoyment of every puff. Some STARS mentioned occasional relights, which slightly impacted the overall score, but this minor inconvenience did not overshadow the cigar’s outstanding qualities. With its medium-bodied profile, Micallef Red pairs well with virtually anything, making it a versatile choice for both casual and seasoned smokers.
