This past weekend on The Cigar Authority podcast we lit up the 3rd cigar from The Cigar Authority Care Package; the Nestor Miranda Collection Connecticut. What is the Care Package you ask? It is a monthly shipment of four cigars fulfilled by 2guyscigars.com and selected by us. These 4 cigars will be featured on upcoming shows and sells for just $19.99, shipping included. You can cancel at anytime, but we don’t see you wanting to do that.
The Nestor Miranda Collection Connecticut is near and dear to my heart for before I came back home to the Northeast I worked for Miami Cigar & Company and I traveled to the My Father factory in Nicaragua with Jason Wood to work on this blend. After numerous blend changes and tweaks that questioned if I would leave Nicaragua alive as Jaime Garcia was ready to kill me we came across a winner. The cigar was brought back to the United States where Nestor Miranda himself signed off on the blend.
Cigar Review: Nestor Miranda Collection
Size: 4.5 x 50 (Coffee Break)
Wrapper: Ecuador Connecticut
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Strength: Mild-Medium
The Look: When you think Connecticut, usually you think of a cigar that has more of a blonde hue to it, rather than the golden brown hue of the Nestor Miranda Connecticut. It’s obvious from its appearance that the cigar is not your typical Connecticut. The band is blue, black and silver with NMC intertwined creating a modern stylish logo. There are a nice amount of oils visible on a nearly flawless wrapper that is perfectly rolled. In the hand the cigar is firm, and the foot reveals some nice darker tobaccos.
The Notes: The sweet cold draw of the NMC Connecticut has notes of maple, toast and butter. There are elements that remind me of Tostado Cubano (Cuban Toast) from my days in Miami. The foot of the cigar serves up cedar and butter to the nose.
Once the cigar is toasted and properly lit the prelight notes carry over to the cigar with elements of butter and bread with a subtle spice thought the nose. As we move further into the first third the cigar embodies a Cuban breakfast to me as it begins to transition from purely a mild cigar to that of one closer to a medium body.
In the second third of the cigar some notes of nuts begin to develop along with some notes of maple. The buttery richness remains and some subtle pepper continues on the retrohale on this smooth well-balanced cigar from Miami Cigar & Company.
In the last third of the Nestor Miranda Collection Connecticut Coffee break some black cherry notes appear for a short a short while. The notes of nuts, toast and butter remain with a relatively short finish.
The Burn: The NMC has an even burn with a thin combustion line. It is important the light the cigar properly so as not to burn the wrapper outside the foot of the cigar. Once lit, the marble color ash hold firm for more than a third at a time. The draw is perfect and the cigar burns true and remains lit from first light to last puff.
The Finish: When the cigar was created the idea was to give Nestor Miranda a cigar to smoke in the morning. He enjoyed the Habano at lunch and the Maduro at dinner time but didn’t have one for his morning coffee. A smooth flavorful cigar with a bit of a Nicaraguan twist; the Connecticut can be enjoyed at anytime of day. All three lines are available at 2guyscigars.com
