New York Legislature Sends Tobacco 21 Bill To Governor

You can pretty much add another state to raise the tobacco purchase to 21 years old. The Tobacco 21 A558  bill which passed the Assembly by a vote of 120-26 headed over to the Senate where it passed in similar fashion.  At 4:11 PM after numerous statements by legislatures, S2833 was passed by a vote of 52-8.

The bill now heads to the desk of Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo who has publicly stated that he plans to sign the bill. The bill will become law 120 days after the signature.

The Senate legislation was sponsored by Diane Savino, who represents parts of Brooklyn and Staten Island while the measure was sponsored in the Assembly by Linda Rosenthal, of Manhattan.

New York will become the  10th State to to raise the tobacco purchase age joining California, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, Utah, Virginia and Washington in raising the tobacco purchase age to 21
