Law | New Hampshire Bill Would Ban Car Smoking With Passengers Under 18
So much for living free. The New Hampshire state motto is in jeopardy this week as lawmakers will hear arguments later today on a bill that would ban smoking in cars if a passenger is under the age of 18.
The bills sponsor is Democrat David Watters fromĀ Barrington, Dover, Rollinsford, and Somersworth.
If Senate Bill 162 were to pass, it would go into effect in 120 days and those guilty of violating it would be subject to a $100 fine.
New Hampshire neighbor, Maine passed a similar law in 2008 when a person under 16 is present.
New Hampshire is home to 1.3 million residents over 9,304 square miles and became a state in 1788.
Sorry guys, on this issue I respectfully disagree. We adults have responsibilities as well as rights and caring for children on one of them. But, I’d prefer a social movement on the smoking in cars with children issue rather than a law. History teaches us how successful Prohibition was.
dpJr47 It’s one of those things though where common sense should prevail and the government shouldn’t get involved with. It should be socially handled, and not law. 18 is a bit extreme, I mean I started smoking when I was 14. I don’t advocate that, but 18 is a bit over the top.
