Since 2008, the Oliva Cigar Family has released a limited edition of the Oliva Serve V, the Maduro Especial. This year the cigar sees two sizes released in 6,000 boxes of 10. Like the last couple of years the cigar sees the release of the Double Toro (6 x 60), but this year also sees the release of a Double Robusto measuring 5 x 54. It’s consistently been one of my favorite special releases each […]
There are few debates in the cigar industry that you just can’t win because there is no clear cut answer. The first one is, do you store your cigars in cello or with the cello removed. The second is, how do you cut a La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Chisel? Do you make like Rush Limbaugh and pinch the sides popping the cap, do you use a bullet punch on the top side, or bottom […]

Each year that Davidoff releases their limited edition Year of the Series I can’t help but chuckle as it is a cigar ahead of its time. Despite being November, 2018 the cigar is billed as a 2019 Limited Edition. This year marks the seventh time that Davidoff has released a cigar in conjunction with the Chinese New Year, and only 3,000 boxes of 10 cigars have been released in the U.S. market. Without further delay, […]

As a continuing service to our members, IPCPR has provided a quick breakdown of what the Commissioner said, and how it might impact our retailer members. Today, November 15th, 2017 FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb issued a statement calling for a ban on flavored cigars among other things. Below is the full text of his statement: As a physician who cared for hospitalized cancer patients, I saw first-hand the devastation that smoking-related diseases had wrought on the lives of patients and their families, and dedicated myself to helping ease this suffering. As a cancer survivor myself, I understand too well the […]
The term Hors d’Age means “beyond time” and it best describes the components of highest quality where time is the key to reach the highest level of perfection in them. It’s a term more commonly used with Cognac but it works with this cigar. For the La Aurora Hors d’Age 2017, all the tobacco was grown in 2006 and the cigars were rolled in 2017 where they have aged at the first cigar factory of the […]
Yesterday, the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products announced an amended fee structure for their Civil Monetary Penalties (CMP). CMPs are the scaled financial penalties FDA issued to retailers found in violation of current regulations or requirements. A Civil Money Penalty (CMP) Complaint is used to initiate an administrative legal action against a retailer that can result in a monetary penalty, called a Civil Money Penalty. The Tobacco Control Act provides that the amount of a […]
