The City Council of Oklahoma City in Oklahoma voted to approve a new ordinance that bans smoking in city parks as well as other city properties. The measure which was passed moments ago includes city-owned and operated properties with exceptions including city owned golf courses and the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission. According to the new ban, violators of the new ordinance will be subjected to a fine of up to $100.

This week, Independence, Missouri has voted to raise the tobacco products purchase age from 18 to 21. The move comes a month after neighboring cities Kansas City, MO and Kansas City, KS passed similar measures.
