We have all heard how the FDA wants to regulate tobacco from the extreme possibility of cigars hidden behind a curtain and ordering from a book at your local brick & mortar instead of perusing the humidor. Then there is the definition of a premium cigar which is currently on the table at $10.00. As American citizens we should be proud of the fact that we have a voice. A voice that soldiers have fought to […]
Recently Jose Blanco formerly of La Aurora and Joya de Nicaragua posted that he was beginning work on a second blend. On his instagram account he began posting pictures of the process. In one picture he is shown examining San Andreas Mexican wrapper and in another smoking binder and filler only. Jose Blanco has entered back into the market with his own company Las Cumbres. His freshman release “Senorial” was well received at the 2014 […]
Each year at the IPCPR show, Davidoff hosts a dinner in which they give out Golden Band Awards to retailers from around the country. This year our own David Garofalo was a recipient of an award for his service to the industry for his battle of cigar rights throughout his home state of New Hampshire. Once such story that he relayed to me this weekend was how in the state of New Hampshire you could […]
In an article posted on Bloomberg News, it seems an Ebola drug made from a tobacco plant has saved U.S. aid workers. The article goes on to say that a small San Diego based company provided an experimental treatment for two Americans who were infected with the deadly Ebola virus in Liberia. The drug appears to be working. The small company of 9 employees released the experimental drug ZMapp which until now has only been […]
The US Patent and Trademark Office has sent notice to Santa Cruz cigars, the makers of Gran Habano. The Trademark office states that Gran Habano has mislead the public via use of the word Habano. In the document they believe that the company is attempting to mislead the public into believing they are selling cigars from Cuba. Santa Clara which utilizes tobacco grown in Honduras and Nicaragua is fighting this accusation which was obviously put into […]
Fratello Cigars is the brainchild of Omar De Frias. The one thing that strikes me that the cigar has developed a brand instead of adding new blends repeatedly, which seems to be a mistake some new companies make. Instead of developing the name and the brand they look to flood the shelves with product that has yet to be established. At the trade show this year, Fratello introduced a box pressed torpedo in the line. […]

The Cigar Authority will really need subtitles this week as we welcome Don Benigno. His translator will be on hand, and this could get comical as earlier this week he was translating what Benigno said to us in Spanish, basically repeating what he said. Dave being the gentlemen he was just nodded as if he understood every word. We will also have Old Fart Freddy Inside the Asylum News with Barry This Day in History […]
