Cigar Review: Pura Soul Nicaragua

Robert Wright, the man behind Pura Soul is someone I have known since I lived in Brooklyn, NY. When I was partners in The Humidor, he was our local rep.  He would eventually wind up with Christian Eiroa where he would partner up with him on the release of this smoke. One of my favorite memories of Robert Wright was at Country Club Cigars watching him play the saxophone at an event. I was surprised […]

Cigar Review: 7-20-4 Factory 57 (pre-release)

On Thursday night I ran into Kurt Kendall at a local event sponsored by a local radio station, The Mill. The event was a cross promotion between his shop, Jack Daniels, and KC’s Rib Shack. On a side note, the pulled pork I had from the shack located in Manchester, NH was off the chain. It was the night before he would leave for IPCPR out of Boston, and as luck would have it he […]

Cigar Review: La Flor Dominicana Capitulo II

Earlier this week, we had Jon Carney from La Flor Dominicana in the studio for a taping of The Cigar Authority which is set to air later today. During the course of the show we spoke about the various new releases coming from this great company at the 2014 IPCPR trade show. During the show we smoked the 1994 which is a celebration of their 20th Anniversary and today we look at the sequel to […]

Cigar Review: Joya de Nicaragua Red

When you mention Joya de Nicaragua to people they instantly think strong cigars. The Dark Antano is famous, or infamous depending on your view of strength. A lot of people overlook some of their cigars including the Cabinetta which is mild to medium in body out of the fear that was instilled in them from the aforementioned strength of the Antano. This weekend at IPCPR the company which is distributed by Drew Estate is set […]

Cigar Review: My Father Connecticut

For me, one of the most anticipated releases of 2014 is the My Father Connecticut. I was intrigued when the local representative told me that the cigar was a mild cigar by the Garcia family. Thankfully, I ran into our local rep Jeremy Soares on Tuesday night after pre-recording our episode this week and he gifted me one knowing I would not be attending the trade show this year. We will however, have a steady […]

Cigar Review: Montecristo Espada

The latest cigar from Altadis USA is the Monecristo Espada. All the tobacco used in this blend comes from the farms of Nestor Plasencia in Nicaragua. The Espada is a collaboration between Plasencia and the Altadis blending team, known as the Grupo de Maestros. The cigars come packaged in 10 count Suede boxes and the word Espada means sword which is a reference to the rapier found on the Montecristo logo. The tobaccos come from Esteli, Jalapa and Ometepe. […]

Cigar Review: Perdomo Double Aged Vintage

Sitting in The Cigar Authority offices Mr. Jonathan let me know about the new Perdomo Double Aged Vintage 12 Years and I was hoping he would bring back a sample from IPCPR. However, we didn’t have to wait long as Perdomo sent us a nice rocks glass with a cigar sample of the new Connecticut. The cigars will only be released to 250 of the finest tobacconists world-wide. According to a letter that came with […]

Cigar Review: Hammer & Sickle Tradicion 6 x 60

I’ve had this cigar sitting on my desk for over a week now and I was dreading smoking it. Not because of the specific cigar but because of the specific size. I for one have not embraced the 6 x 60 madness that has taken over the cigar world. According to the Hammer & Sickle website, “We chose the Hammer + Sickle icon to represent our brand as our story uniquely matches the history of […]

Review: Quesada 40th Corona Clasica

Today’s cigar, the Quesada Corona Clasica is the epitome of a limited edition cigar. The 40th Anniversary from Quesada was blended by the daughters of Manuel Quesada at the MATASA factory in the Dominican Republic and was unveiled back at Pro Cigar earlier this year. Manuel Quesada then blended a limited edition version of the 40th for himself that he shared with a few select accounts. Yesterday, I was informed that this cigar will be a […]
