Oklahoma has seen the introduction of a bill by the State Senate President Harold Wright (R-57) that would modify the Oklahoma Workplace Clean Air Act and remove an exemption for cigar smoking at cigar bars and cigar retailers in the Sooner State. The measure by Senator Tyson Larson of O’Neill that would exclude cigar shops from the 2008 Nebraska Clean Indoor Air Act has passed the General Affairs Committee by a vote of 7-0 today. The bill will now go before the full Nebraska Legislature where it will be debated and voted upon. On Friday August 29th the Nebraska Supreme Court ruled that allowing smoking in cigar bars and tobacco shops is an unconstitutional special legislation. The court which was divided stated in their ruling, “here is no substantial difference in circumstances between cigar bars and other public places or places of employment that justifies treating cigars bars differently.
