The Magnolia State has seen a bill introduced that would raise the tobacco purchase age from 18 to 21 in Mississippi. House Bill No. 507 has been introduced by Rep. Bryant W. The Board of Aldermen in Holly Springs, Mississippi in a 3-2 vote passed an ordinance that bans smoking in buildings that are open to the public. The measure which passed despite opposition from local businesses includes restaurants retail stores and other commercial spaces. The law is set to go into effect in October, 2015.

In Harrison County, Mississippi it may soon become illegal to enjoy a good cigar as a smoking ban on all city property is looming. The county which encompasses Biloxi, and Gulfport is home to 196,000 residents. The first reading of the proposal passed on Monday also includes any land leased by the county. A second reading is due for next month and if passed the ordinance can immediately be put into effect.
Mississippi doctors are pushing for state legislators to put a statewide smoking ban on the ballot.
