Portsmouth, RI Smoking Ban Looming

The town of Portsmouth, Rhode Island will look into banning smoking on all town beaches, sports field and parks. The move would follow ordinances passed by Newport and Middletown earlier this year. Providence, RI Considering Downtown Smoking Ban

According to a report from the Associated Press, the capital of Rhode Island is considering a ban on smoking in the downtown area. The smoking ban that Providence is proposing would be the most wide-reaching ban to date in the United States. The proposed ban would apply to non-enclosed sidewalks and other pedestrian areas including alleys accessible to the public anywhere in downtown Providence. Providence, RI Moves To Ban Smoking Downtown

Law | Newport, RI Bans Beach Smoking

The Newport City Council passed a new measure that bans smoking on beaches and includes Cliff Walk. The measure was passed with 6-1 vote. According to the City Council part of the reason for passing the law has to do with ecosystem. Law | Middletown, RI Considers Smoking Ban

On Monday, the town council of Middletown, Rhode Island voted unanimously to hold a public hearing on June 1st regarding a proposal to ban smoking at all public beaches, parks and recreational spaces in town. According to Middletown Beach Commission Chairman Rian Wilkinson he believes smoking on the beaches might cause some beach-goers to leave and never come back.
