The story of Indian Motorcycle is a complicated one with the company going bankrupt in 1953. In 2011, the producer of some of the greatest bikes in history was purchased by Polaris Industries and the company is thriving once again. On the May 9, 2015 episode of The Cigar Authority Phil Zanghi discussed his family history with the brand and what led to the creation of Indian Motorcycle Cigars. The Shade version of the cigar started as […]

Orange is the new cigar band color. There are a few companies who turned to the color orange for their cigar bands this and historically at least to my recollection it is an under used color. The Aging Room Solera Shade which got a full release this year at the 2017 IPCPR is one of the companies that went orange. Solera is in reference to a method of aging has been used for centuries in […]
Today is day 3 of smoking on a budget and we take a look at a relatively new brand that came out less than a year ago. Charter Oak is available in both a Connecticut Shade and Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. It’s made by Foundation Cigar Company which is owned by Nick Melillo who made his name while working for Drew Estate. In naming the cigar, Melillo chose a name that represents the greatest symbol of […]
In 2015 Master Blender Willy Herrera released his first blend for Drew Estate that did not fall under his namesake brand name. To create the Undercrown Shade, Herrera worked closely with the Undercrown roller team that blended the original Undercrown line. The original Undercrown line was developed by rollers who could not smoke the Liga Privada line due to supply issues. Instead, they worked together to create that line that uses similar tobaccos to Liga, […]
As a rule of thumb, I dislike to review two cigars from the same company on back to back days. However, the amount of messages and emails I have gotten asking about Charter Oak and yesterday’s review of Tabernacle have been through the roof. So today I will break that rule, and review the Connecticut Shade version of the Charter Oak. I’m pretty sure Derek will review the Broadleaf version the coming the weeks. Charter […]
We can all remember the time we had our first cigar. For my it was in Brooklyn, NY and that cigar was a Macanudo Robust. It wasn’t long before I would venture out and find my first go to cigar in the Padron 2000, but along the way one of the cigars that I would smoke was The Griffin’s. Let’s face it, the majority of us start mild. Cigar Review: The Griffin’s Country of Origin: Dominican Republic […]
Yesterday we reviewed one of two highly anticipated Connecticut shade wrappers to be released at the IPCPR. Today we take a look at the Drew Estate Undercrown Shade. According to the press release, ““Undercrown Shade” marks the first release blended by Drew Estate Master Blender Willy Herrera not to fall under the Herrera Estelí brand family. Herrera’s continued involvement in blending and brand development within Drew Estate is evident with this new blend, as Herrera […]
In 2013 The Cigar Authority named Icon by Hammer + Sickle as their cigar of the Year. A little known cigar outside of the New England area the cigar grew in popularity and this year is taking part in the Big Smoke New York City. Before the cigar was cool, The Cigar Authority chose to recognize a cigar of superior flavor and construction. So on the eve of The Cigar Authority releasing their contenders for […]
