The Look: As we mentioned above the new look United Cigars features a red, white and blue band with some stars. It’s a patriotic looking band and a reminder that we cigar smokers must be United against those who want to take away our freedoms and liberties. The box pressed cigar has the look of another famous box pressed cigar, with a wrapper that will not win any beauty contests. It’s also lighter than many of the Broadleaf cigars on the market choosing to showcase the natural color. In the hand the cigar is firm with no soft spots and a well packed foot.
The Notes: The cold draw of the United Natural Toro serves up fruit like sweetness with some subtle tartness while the aroma off the foot of the cigar has a touch of mocha and cedar. Once we toast the foot of the cigar there is a mocha note that develops in the first few puffs.
The first third of the cigar has a focal point of mocha with underlying notes of coffee and nuts. As we progress deeper into the first third mocha transforms into more of a cocoa component and the third comes to a close some spice develops through the nose and slightly on the aroma.
The second third of the United Cigars Box Press sees the stick continue with notes of nuts and coffee, but the spice begins to kick further up through the nose and some of the fruit like sweetness that appeared on the cold draw makes its want to the finish which is short to moderate in length.
The last third sees an increase in cocoa notes, with a subtle fruit like sweetness. On the finish there are notes of dark chocolate and a lingering coffee components along with a touch of spice.
The Finish: When you want to kick back and relax the last thing you want is a cigar that will need a lot of babysitting. The United Cigars Box Press is one of those cigars that just take care of themselves. From its effortless draw, easily identifiable notes and exquisite burn this is a cigar tell you to slow down and enjoy the view. With notes of coffee, cocoa, nuts and a subtle spice it’s a perfect Sunday afternoon in a lounge chair or in the hammock.
