Utah Republican Governor, Gary Herbert has signed into law House Bill 324 which will gradually raise the tobacco purchase age from 19 to 20 in 2020 and then to 21 in 2021. Each change in the smoking age will occur on July 1st.
The measure provides an exemption for members of the military, their spouses and dependents where the smoking age will remain at 19 years of age.
Utah becomes the 8th state to pass a Tobacco 21 law joining California, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon and Virginia.
