Law | Leverett, MA Joins 21 Club

The Leverett board of health officially voted on Wednesday night to change the legal age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21. The move makes Leverett one of 20 communities in the state of Massachusetts to raise the age. The board which voted on the measure at their meeting last night did so in unanimous fashion. Law | Manhattan Beach, CA To Expand Ban

Back in August the City of Manhattan Beach passed a law that prohibited smoking in all public places. The law carried fines up to $1,000.00. Yesterday, the City Council directed the city staff to draft a new ordinance extending the ban. The new ban will extend to multi-unit residences and require all tobacco retailers to have a license to operate within the city. In Des Moines, Iowa a new bill has been introduced in the State Legislature that would require casinos to comply with the state’s smoking ban.
