We’ve had the Urban Artists & Cigars Collective on The Cigar Authority a couple of times now and you can sum up their visits to the studio as interesting. The last time we had them on the show we should have been more aware of the date as it was 4/20 and the duo known as 2Esae and Ski were even more off the rails than usual. During the show, they hinted at a limited edition Back 2 Back. That cigar has finally reached retail and we fire one up to offer an opinion here on The Cigar Authority.
Cigar Review: Back 2 Back LE 2019
Wrapper: Ecuador Connecticut
Binder: Ecuador Connecticut
Fillers: Dominican Republic, Peru
Length: 7″
Ring Gauge: 52
Size: Torpedo
The Look: The packaging definitely fits the brand as the spray can is their preferred medium when it comes to their art. Inside the can sits 12 perfectly rolled torpedo cigars with a near flawless Ecuador Connecticut wrapper. The band features colors of black and bronze denoting Back 2 Back in a stylized sewer cap and a skyline featuring water towers and the original Kosciuszko Bridge which was fully replaced in 2019. In the hand the cigar is firm with no voids of tobacco and a nice weight.
The Notes: The cold draw off the Back to Back Limited Edition 2019 is very Davidoff-esque. It’s a bit cliche when smoking a cigar from the company, but the cigar doesn’t disappoint with hints of cedar, hay and earth while the aroma off the foot is an exact match. Once the cigar is toasted and lit it is a different cigar with hints of honey on the first few pulls
As we move into the first third the notes of honey remain dominant with an occasional hint of butterscotch. The cigar is exceptionally smooth and as the first third comes to a close some nuances of cedar join the mix. The retrohale has a tea like herbal note along with some more hints of honey.
The second third sees the butterscotch notes become a little more dominant along with cedar and hay that take over the profile as we slide past the halfway point. The honey sweetness remains but it serves as more of an afterthought on the retrohale which still has a touch of tea.
The Finish: Back 2 Back has begun to carve out a place for their inexpensive big ring gauge smokes which makes this release puzzling. Will someone who likes the brand spend $15.00 on traditional ring gauge (52) when they can spend under $9 and get a large ring gauge (70). This release seems more geared to the Davidoff smoker than the Back 2 Back smoker. With that said and done, if you are a fan of the white label you will be a fan of this cigar. It’s smooth, mild and complex.
