Originally part of CLE, Robert Caldwell left to form his own company aptly named Caldwell Cigar Company and until now the cigars were made at the Ventura cigar factory in the Dominican Republic.
In their short time of existence the company has outgrown the small factory and needed their own space, and own factory that will see the production still run by Ventura. However, the new factory will be more than triple the size and allow the company to produce a million cigars a year while employing 100 rollers.
With a new factory comes new lines that will debut at the 2015 IPCPR Trade Show in New Orleans. Those lines are Sevillana Reserva, Gilbralter Extra, Murices Especial and Blind Man’s Bluff though the latter will be rolled in Honduras at the same factory where Camacho’s are produced.
Those cigars and the core original lines begin production in the new factory this week.
According to Caldwell, while the Venturas will run production the company will have its own people on the ground overseeing things.
The three new brands that will be produced in the new factory are forming a new collection dubbed, Iberian Express. The Sevillana Reserva features an Ecuador Connecticut, a binder from Dominican Republic and fillers from Nicaragua and Dominican Republic. The Gibraltar Extra will feature and Ecuador wrapper over a Dominican Binder and fillers from Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and United States. Lastly, the Murices Especial has a Brazilian wrapper with a binder from Dominican Republic and fillers composed of tobaccos from Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The cigars are expected to retail at $6 – $8 before any local taxes.
