The TAA stands for the Tobacconist Associate of America of which there is roughly 75 members. Each spring they get together for their annual convention and many of the cigar manufacturers make an exclusive cigar for these movers and shakers.
In 2013, AVO Cigars released there first ever cigar for these astute retailers and after a exquisitely prepared Delmonico steak this was my cigar of choice.
Cigar: AVO Movement TAA
Size: 6 x 52
Wrapper: Ecuador
Binder: Dominican Republic (San Vicente)
Filler: Dominican Republic (Piloto Viso, Habano Viso, San Vicente Ligero)
Distributor: Davidoff USA
The AVO Movement is a box pressed version of the 2013 Limited Edition known as the Dominant 13th. The Ecuador wrapper is gritty under the fingers almost like a fine sandpaper. The wrapper is flawless with no discoloration and a flawless roll. The cigar is firm to the touch with no soft spots.
In true AVO fashion the cold draw of the cigar is reminiscent of barnyard with notes of straw and hay while the cold draw offers up the same. To this reviewer the AVO has always felt like a Davidoff at this point of the cigar.
Once the foot of the cigar is toasted, and the first pull is taken the cigar continues to serve up some earthy notes with a nice nuttiness and some wisps of coffee. The retrohale (through the nose), is as smooth as I have ever experienced on a cigar. As the cigar transitions to the second third of the cigar I am impressed by how creamy this the AVO Movement TAA is.
Once fully ensconced in the second third of the smoke, the cigar begins to pick up some notes of cinnamon over a core of nuts and cedar. As the cigar transitioned into the last third the cedar was the primary note.
The last third of the cigar some pepper notes developed through the nose but an almost caramel like sweetness lingered on the finish and the aroma of the cigar was incredibly pleasing.
Overall this cigar was the perfect follow up to my the Delmonico steak I had for lunch and I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.
