Cigar Review: Mi Querida SakaKhan

Back when Steve Saka announced the SakaKhan he wrote on Facebook, “It was the 80’s when Chaka Khan became known as an artist and I was getting certified to Con(n) as a JOOD Underway on my ship – the enlisted guys who worked the Bridge started calling me this… kinda funny as my middle name ‘Temujin’ is also the birth name of Ghengis Khan… so this is double dip when it comes to why this nickname stuck… my Dad obviously had some pretty lofty expectations.” The line features the Mi Querida band in black which will undoubtedly result in the cigar being called Mi Querida Black. While the SakaKhan is a limited release it is expected that there will be more sizes available in 2023.

Cigar Review: Mi Querida SakaKhan
Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf No. 1
Binder: San Andres Negro
Filler: Dominican Republic, Honduras, Nicaragua
Size: 7.25 x 54
Vitola: Double Corona

The Look: Packaged in 10 count boxes that feature black on black colors, the Mi Querida SakaKhan is laid out in one row. Sporting the aforementioned black & silver band the cigar features a pigtail cap. The wrapper features some subtle oils and a few noticeable veins. In the hand the cigar is firm although slightly lighter than expected.

The Notes: The aroma from the foot has a subtle raisin sweetness with an abundance of spices in the background while the cold draw serves up notes of tobacco with a subtle molasses. Once the cigar is lit, pepper singes the nostrils on the retrohale with a flavor profile consisting of red pepper, cedar, raisins and a very subtle molasses. As the cigar progress notes of cashews begin to develop as the cedar intensifies. The finish is moderate in length and as we conclude the cigar there is a nice amount of raisin sweetness with a touch of red pepper.

The Finish: While the Mi Querida SakaKhan is enjoyable it goes on a little long like Steve Saka on a podcast or a Facebook posting. It’s a commitment but thankfully it is one that engages from first light to last puff. The SakaKhan is another great blend and this one will rock you, if you let it. Medium-Full in strength but oh so tasty.
