While many companies have tried to create a cigar that matches the diversity and elegance of Scotch Whiskey many have failed and most lack the knowledge of spirits that Hammer + Sickle has. The result of that knowledge is Caleanoch.
Over 1,000 days ago, Hammer + Sickle set sail on a journey with only one question, “How do you develop and blend a series of cigars that match the diversity and elegance go Scotch Whiskey.”
Having experimented with 27 different blends, they soon realized that they had to develop something new that did not exist in the realm of tobacco-growing, to this new method had to be born. There was a need for tobacco that would deliver the crisp salt air, and rich earth elements the rough Scottish Landscape is known for.
The end result is the first ever cigar that is peat fired. According to Hammer + Sickle, “To understand peat fired tobacco one must first understand what peat is and, moreover, its importance in Scottish production of whiskey. Peat is earth that consists of grasses, moss, tree roots and soil that has become tightly compacted over thousands of years. Peat is found throughout Scotland and it is the use of peat in Scottish whisky that delivers the rich, earthy flavors Scotch is known for.”
In the creation of scotch the Peat is harvested, and is left to dry in the open air for approximately two weeks.
For The Caleanoch 25, Hammer + Sickle comprised the filler of 25 percent peat-fired corojo and 75 percent air-cured corojo. According to Eric Hanson of Hammer + Sickle, “The balance of traditional air-cured corojo sweetness, blended with the smoky peat-fired corojo delivers an elegant experience reminiscent of a softly peated scotch from Islay.”
To finish the blend for The Caleanoch 25 a different priming of corojo was used in the binder with the goal of delivering perfect combustion. The wrapper selection is Ecuadorian Connecticut, prized for it unmatched smooth finish and extraordinary flavor. Together, these tobaccos deliver an experience befitting the most astute Scotch enthusiast.
Caleacnoch will be available in one size, 6 x 50 and carry an MSRP of $12.50
