Independence Robusto Cigar Review
Following the success and nationwide sell-out of the Independence Firecracker, Arnold André and United Cigars expanded Independence into a permanent offering this month. The line now includes a 4 7/8” x 50 Robusto, featuring Dominican and Nicaraguan ligero fillers, a Dominican binder, and a Mexican Habano wrapper, rolled at the Arnold André factory in the Dominican Republic.
The Independence Robusto features a medium cocoa-brown wrapper with a matte finish and slightly rugged appearance. Some veins are visible along the wrapper, but the cigar feels well packed with solid construction throughout.
The cigar opens with traditional notes of oak, leather, coffee, and baking spice, accompanied by cinnamon, clove, and white pepper. Brown bread, cashews, walnuts, and a touch of vanilla add depth, while a light underlying sweetness balances the profile. Black tea and espresso emerge as the third develops, bringing a slightly dry finish with hints of amaretto and earthiness.
Coffee becomes the dominant flavor in the second third, backed by cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and other baking spices. Hickory, toast, cocoa powder, and cornbread add a savory quality, while caramel and butter provide some contrasting sweetness and richness. A touch of salt and black pepper spice rounds out the finish.
Pepper and heavier wood notes return in the final third, joined by leather, coffee, and toast. Orange peel, mineral, and graphite notes add some sharper complexity, while subtle black olive and floral flavors appear in the background. Graham cracker and cinnamon provide some lingering sweetness before the cigar closes with wood and a distinct hazelnut finish.
The Independence Robusto delivers excellent construction, an even burn, easy draw, bright white ash, and plenty of smoke output. The profile offers enough transitions to remain interesting while staying rooted in traditional cigar flavors, balancing sweetness and spice without becoming an overt flavor bomb. Its strength is deceptive, gradually building throughout the smoke rather than hitting all at once. Overall, it is an enjoyable, well-balanced cigar with enough complexity to hold your attention and enough familiarity to make it an excellent everyday smoke.
