Law | Portland, OR Ban Hearing
On Wednesday, Portland City Council will hold a hearing discuss a city-wide smoking ban in public parks.
The hearing comes in advance of a vote by the City Council that is scheduled for February 18. If it passes, the smoking ban would begin in July.
The new law would expand existing smoking restrictions to more than 200 public parks facilities, trails, golf courses, recreation areas and community centers.
The hearing takes place at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday at Portland City Hall.
WEAK, I live in Portland, good to know Barry. Thought I saw something about this on the news this afternoon…I smoke in parks quite a bit (cigarettes sit there when cigars turn into compost) but the cigarette smokers are the reason for this.
The cigarettes smokers are not thereon for this. The tobacco control movement is behind this. Make no mistake they want to ban all tobacco. This isn’t about cigarette butts–littering is already a violation.
The tobacco control cult relies on a divide and conquer approach. They also rely on incremental measures so they can limit backlash to their prohibitions. Don;t fall into the trap of demonizing cigarette smokers to protect the ability to smoke cigars. The antismokers are relying on that division to make it easier when they come to ban cigars. Reject smoking bans and social control degaussed as health concern.
Vinny Gracchus I didn’t mean the cigarette smokers were the cause of this bill/ban to pass I mean they are the cause of all the litter in Portland parks, that has become a big issue here in the state. There are television ads claiming “cigarette butts are the #1 littered item in Oregon parks”…ect ect.
What ever the reason…I smoke in parks and I can tell you that I leave no trace when smoking a cigar but I walk past hundreds of butts.
I’m sad that I will have to be at work during this hearing. Smoking on benches, play areas and picnic areas are already prohibited. Portland officials seem to have already forgotten this fact, and I have never seen it enforced
The Nothing They also banned smoking on docks….one of my favorite places to smoke a cigar is on the beach!
