Law | San Benito, CA Pushing For Tobacco Ban

The new public health office for San Benito, California is pushing to make the sales of tobacco in pharmacies illegal. The movement to make a legal product illegal has begun.

Dr. Anju Goel a Wisconsin native wants to also limit the advertising that can be displayed in the window of a storefront pertaining to tobacco products. She hopes to have the ban in place within a year.

Dr. Goel decided to take a position in public health due to the ability to make changes in the state health code, which leads to the question of ethics. Perhaps it is time to make public health officials an elected position instead of be appointed.

San Benito is home to almost 57,000 residents over 1,391 square miles and was founded in 1874.
