This afternoon the Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson will propose raising the smoking age from 18 to 21 at a news conference to take place at 2pm PST today. The press conference will be held at the Legislative Building in Olympia.
The move is being highly praised by Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. According to Vince Willmore of the campaign, “We’re talking about a highly addictive product that is the No. 1 cause of preventable death in our country. Most people never make an adult choice to start smoking. They are targeted by the tobacco industry as kids, and they’re addicted as kids.”
Washington is home to over 7 million residents over 71,362 square miles and became a state in 1889.
