According to a document from the Office of the Attorney General in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the state has issued new regulations that effect cigars.
Effective September 25, 2015 all products must be placed out of reach of all customers and in a location only accessible by retail personal. Additionally, stores will no longer be able to give away free cigars as part of a promotion. This means that buy 3 get 1 free will cease to exist in the state. Additional cigars with the purchase of a box will be gone as well.
Update 9/17: While the original law was written 15 years ago, the previous AG opted not to act on it. Our sources tell us the new AG of Massachusetts put forth this document with a plan to enforce the measure.
One of our sources goes on to say the majority of issues do not apply to handmade cigars with the exception of promotions. Days of Buy 3 Get 1 Free will be over. The saving grace for cigar shops is that they are “adult only venues” and the saving grace for humidors and self service. However convenience stores with a selection of premium cigars will have to abide by the new regulations.
