News | New Hampshire Cigar Tax Proposal

Today, the Governor of New Hampshire, Maggie Hassan-D proposed a $11.5B Budget, which is a 6.4% increase from the last budget. The review of the budget was mixed however, there was praise from the American Cancer Society which has us worried.

According to patch.com, Mike Rollo, who’s the Director of Government Relations in New Hampshire for the American Cancer Society Action Network (ACS CAN) praised Hassan’s “commitment to improve public health and increase revenue for New Hampshire through an increase in the state’s tobacco tax, as well as her proposal to include premium cigars and electronic cigarettes under this tax umbrella.”

While no documents have yet been filed with a proposed increase, it was referenced today in the Governor’s budget proposal and a public hearing on the matter is expected.

New Hampshire is home to 1.3 million residents over 9,304 square miles and became a state in 1788.
