Padron 1926 Serie 80 Years Maduro Cigar Review

This weekend we celebrated my last weekend as a bachelor with booze, food and cigars. One of the cigars was given to me by my friend Terry, the manager of Two Guys Smoke Shop in Seabrook, NH. I had already smoked 8 cigars over the course of the day and this one was special, so I opted to hold on to it and light it up today.

The Padron 1926 Serie 80 Years was released in 2006 for the 80th birthday of Jose Padron and features a 5 year aged Maduro wrapper.

Cigar Review: Padron Serie 1926

The Look: Packaged in 8 count boxes, the Padron Serie 1926 80 Years look gorgeous in its presentation. The cigar for today’s review looks like it can use plastic surgeon to remove the crooked looking nature of the cigar. The maduro wrapper has a blemish that reveals a soft spot underneath it, but otherwise the cigar is firm and well rolled.

The Notes: The cold draw serves up a subtle dried fruit and hint of cocoa with a little bit of a marshmallow fluff. The aroma off the wrapper and foot is sweet and grassy.

Once the cigar is lit there is a wonderful sweetness about it with hints of marshmallow fluff. As the cigar progresses notes of chocolate and earth dominate the palate. The smooth nature of the 80 years is evident as its easy to get lost in the moment with this cigar.

As we transition into the center portion of the cigar the sweetness begins to fade into the background and the marshmallow fluff has left the building. Notes of coffee and leather begin to develop with a subtle nutty finish.

The last third sees the leather notes become dominant with coffee moving into the background. Some sweetness returns for a last hurrah, with more nuttiness on the finish.

The Finish: If I had one complaint about the Padron 80 Years, it is that I personally find the draw to be a little loose. However, the experience of this cigar is in the higher echelon of all things cigar. It’s not a cheap date, but it is a cigar worthy of a special occasion.
