Powstanie Connecticut Toro Cigar Review

Released in 2023, the Powstanie Connecticut marked the brand’s third regular production line and its first new core release since the company debuted in 2015. The cigars are crafted at Fábrica de Tabacos NicaSueño S.A., the home of RoMa Craft Tobac, and feature a well-balanced blend of an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Pennsylvanian Broadleaf binder with Nicaraguan fillers.

The cigar presents beautifully in the hand. Its golden light-brown wrapper is silky smooth with a well-stretched leaf and very few visible veins. The construction appears excellent with a firm, densely packed feel and a clean, well-applied cap. Visually, it delivers exactly what you expect from a premium Connecticut wrapper: elegant, refined, and inviting.

The first third opens with a wave of roasted nuts, toasted bread, and doughy notes that quickly establish a warm, bakery-like profile. Creaminess soon joins the mix with flavors reminiscent of Nutella and peanut butter. Baking spices such as nutmeg and cocoa powder add depth, along with subtle touches of sugar and a faint hint of citrus brightness. Black and red pepper provide a gentle kick while cedar and a touch of ginger round out the profile.

Moving into the second third, the toasted bread notes remain prominent but evolve slightly, accompanied by pepper and a light hay-like character. A creamy coffee note emerges, pairing nicely with developing wood tones of oak. A cinnamon sugar sweetness appears alongside roasted almonds and more cocoa powder, while black pepper becomes more noticeable on the finish. Supporting notes of leather and a light touch of salt add complexity and keep the profile balanced.

In the final third, the bread-forward character continues but transforms into something richer, reminiscent of a toasted pumpernickel bagel with a drizzle of brown butter. The oak becomes more pronounced alongside the presence of well-aged tobacco, giving the cigar a deeper and slightly more mature flavor profile. Black pepper remains but softens compared to earlier stages, allowing subtle hints of clove and a refreshing touch of spearmint to emerge near the finish.

Overall, the Powstanie Connecticut Toro is an enjoyable cigar from start to finish that leaves you wanting another. It is deceptively complex for a Connecticut-wrapped cigar, with the Pennsylvanian Broadleaf binder providing a bit of extra body and character beneath the smooth exterior. The cigar delivers clear transitions of flavor throughout the experience while maintaining excellent construction and combustion, even when smoked in cold winter conditions where many reviewers tested it. This is a well-made cigar that should appeal to anyone who enjoys mild to medium-bodied profiles, and it pairs especially well with a cup of coffee in the morning.
