Rockville, MD Bans Smoking At Parks & Golf Courses

Earlier this week the city of Rockville, Maryland saw the City Council vote 5-0 to ban smoking in the city owned plaza in the middle of Rockville Town Square as well as city parks which includes Red Gate Golf Course that is owned by the city. The ban will not carry over to county owned golf courses which are exempt.

The measure joins existing regulations in the city that banned smoking inside city buildings, outside the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center, the dog park, and within 40 feet of city playground equipment.

The idea was originally suggested by Adam Zimmerman who is a resident of the city of Rockville who didn’t like that people were smoking at organized community events and the outdoor ice rink.

The new ban will go in effect once the city gets signs explaining the ban the will cost the city in excess of $27,000. It is expected this will take two-three months.
