Limited to just 300 boxes of 10 cigars, the Smoking Jacket Limited Edition comes to us from Henke Kelner Jr. and his Kelner Boutique Factory. If that name seems familiar, his father is the master blender for Davidoff. This Limited Edition is the follow-up to the original Smoking Jacket released in 2013.

The Look: Packaged in a gorgeous lacquered 10 count box the Smoking Jacket Limited Edition is pure elegance. Inside the Gran Belicoso is perfectly lined up with black and silver bands. The wrapper named for the region it is grown in, is as flawless as they come. Balanced in the hand, with no soft spots the cigar has a hefty weight and is seamlessly rolled.
The Notes: The aroma off the covered foot and wrapper reminds me cookie dough and chocolate while the cold draw reveals notes of oatmeal, raisins and the aforementioned cookie dough.
Once the cigar is toasted and lit, the initial notes of the cigar are pepper and cedar, but once we move about an inch into the cigar some complexity develops. There are hints of cookie dough and a bazooka like sweetness on the aroma that reminds me of having an oversized bubble burst. As the first third comes to a close the cookie dough and cedar notes battle for supremacy.
In the second third, the Limited Edition from Smoking Jacket the notes stay the course until the half-way point when some hints of apricots begin to emerge with continuing cedar and a developing earthy component. The pepper is still there on the retrohale while the aroma of the cigar remains sweet.
As this monster of a cigar concludes, the last third is definitely the strongest. The elements of cedar and earth are dominant, as the cigar looses some of its sweetness. The pepper notes on the retrohale are more intense and tingle the nostrils.
The Burn: Time. It is something that is needed to enjoy this cigar as it burned to perfection for over 2 hours. The razor-sharp, thin combustion line reveals a medium gray ash that is firm despite some early flakiness. The draw was iconic and the cigar remained lit throughout the experience.
The Finish: While he might be the son of Henke Kelner, Henke Kelner Jr. is definitely making his own footprint with his own distinct style of making cigars. This full body cigar is rich, complex and flavorful. While a large ring gauge isn’t common for a limited edition, it works in this blend which is definitely worthy of a purchase.
