Yesterday the House of Representatives passed a resolution that cleared the way for a vote on HR 2339 that is expected to happen today February 28th, 2020. The state of Maine has seen House Bill LD 1028 introduced that seeks to raise the tobacco tax on cigars 305%. In the state of Maine cigars are currently taxed at a rate of 20% of the wholesale price, the new proposal would change that to 81%. This afternoon the FDA announced via its twitter feed that it was extending the compliance deadline for submitting ingredient listings for deemed tobacco products by 6 months. The move comes a little over two weeks after they announced they would be delaying the listing for people in areas affected by hurricanes flooding and fires.
