Last year the state of Washington failed at its attempt to pass a Tobacco 21 law, but this year the bill is one step away from passing and becoming law.
It started in the House as bill H.B. 1074 where it passed by a 66-30 vote before it moved to the senate where it passed by a 33-12 vote.
The bill now heads to the Governor’s desk where it will need his signature to become law.
Details of the bill can be found at: https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=1074&Year=2019&initiative=
If passed Washington would join California, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon Utah and Virginia in raising the tobacco purchase age.
