Salem, NH – In front of 500 cigar enthusiasts gathered at the New England Cigar Expo, history was made as one of the most iconic names in premium cigars unveiled a new identity. After four decades, Two Guys Smoke Shop officially has become Two Guys Cigars.
Founded in 1985 in Somerville, Massachusetts, by David Garofalo and Paul Antonelli, Two Guys Smoke Shop began as a small tobacco and convenience shop selling everything from cigarettes and chewing tobacco to penny candy and comic books. Shortly after, David’s brother John stepped in as the “second guy,” helping steer the shop into a new era. By the early 1990s, Two Guys had evolved into a cigar-only business. Following John’s sudden passing in 2004, David continued the journey, expanding to three celebrated locations in Salem, Nashua, and Seabrook NH, as well as launching one of the first online cigar stores in 1993, 2GuysCigars.com.
The brand’s original logo, inspired by a Flintstones parody T-shirt called Bedrock Vice, featured a cartoon version of Dave and John with cigars in their mouths. While beloved by many, there was no longer two guys, the playful artwork and the term “Smoke Shop” no longer reflected the legacy or expertise that Two Guys had built over 40 years.
“After all this time, it was clear that our name should reflect who we are and what we stand for,” said David Garofalo, President and Founder of Two Guys Cigars. “We are a cigar shop! Never forget where you came from and never forget who got you there. This change honors our past while pointing boldly to our future.”
The update, revealed Friday night at the Expo, is subtle but powerful: everything stays the same except “Smoke Shop” has been replaced by the word “Cigars.” The shift may seem simple, but it carries tremendous weight, fortifying the brand’s promise to focus exclusively on premium, handmade cigars, and to continue being a trusted expert in the cigar community for the next 40 years and beyond.
New signage, updated uniforms, refreshed branding, and the legal work to cement the change are already underway. But the essence remains unchanged: Two Guys Cigars is still the same destination cigar lovers have trusted for four decades, now with a name that says it all.
