In the state of Massachusetts there are more than 70 cities and municipalities that have raised the smoking age to match that of the drinking age and Attleboro is looking to help that number grow.
The Health Department is set to hold a public meeting on October 29th and decided whether they want to raise the age which doest not need the support of the City Council or voters. The move has been pushed by two local pediatricians and it is believed to have the support of the majority of 40,000 residents in this city south of Boston.
The move which continues to grow in Massachusetts is a growing trend in the United States with states like Hawaii set to go 21 in January, and eight Democrats introducing a bill that would raise the age nationwide.
