Avo Improvisation 30 Years

AVO Improvisation 30 Years Limited Edition Cigar Review

It is rather sad that Avo Uvezian didn’t live to see the 30th Anniversary of AVO Cigars. But when you lived a life as special as his that sadness quickly changes to admiration.

To kick off the AVO 30th Anniversary the company has released the Improvisation Series Limited Edition of which only 2,400 boxes were made. It is the first of the three limited edition releases to celebrate the anniversary of the brand. In June the LE 22 is expected to return as well as the LE 05 in September.

Cigar: AVO Improvisation 30 Years
Wrapper: Ecuador Marron
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: : Dominican Republic
Length: 7.5″
Ring Gauge: 50
Size: Double Corona

The Look: The 25 count high gloss box of the Avo 30 Years features a push button lock allowing the box to be used as an improvised humidor. On the top of the box there is a textured orange stripe that is inspired by the unique textures from Avo Uvezian’s hallmark hat and linen suits. At first glance once might confuse the Marron wrapper for a Connecticut. There are a few thin veins on the wrapper and the stick features two bands, one with the classic Avo logo and the other denoting the stylish 30th logo. It is interesting to note the bands are printed on linen like paper in a classy nod to the man himself.

The Notes: Once we use a straight guillotine cut, the cold draw serves up a note that reminds me of a butter cookie. In the background there is a touch of grass, hay and cedar. The foot of the cigar has that quintessential AVO barnyard aroma. After carefully toasting the foot, the initial notes of the cigar are earthy.

Moving on to the first third the earthy notes remain but they slowly slide into the background, as some cinnamon begins to emerge for a short while until a citrus component begins to take over as the dominant flavor. In the background there are wisps of vanilla with cedar and nuts on the retrohale which extends to the finish of the cigar.

The second third sees the citrus fade away while the cigar becomes earthy with hints of mocha, cedar and nuts. Around the half way point of the Avo 30th Improvisation Limited Edition a note of butterscotch begins to develop along with some fresh bread in the background. The earthiness remains but it slides into the background as the cigar becomes sweet with a subtle barley on the retrohale.

The last third is has the most spice of the cigar with notes of pepper on the palate and the retrohale. The primary notes are still earthy with an abundance of cedar and a touch of nuttiness.

The Finish: I was pleasantly surprised by all the flavor changes in the AVO 30th Improvisation Limited Edition. Its a mild to medium bodied cigar, but it is full flavored with some unique notes as well. It serves the legacy of AVO well definitely a must have for fans of the brand or the man himself.

Score: 92
Price: $16.19 / $359.99
