Since 2008, the Oliva Cigar Family has released a limited edition of the Oliva Serve V, the Maduro Especial. This year the cigar sees two sizes released in 6,000 boxes of 10. Like the last couple of years the cigar sees the release of the Double Toro (6 x 60), but this year also sees the release of a Double Robusto measuring 5 x 54. It’s consistently been one of my favorite special releases each […]
Cigar Reviews
There are few debates in the cigar industry that you just can’t win because there is no clear cut answer. The first one is, do you store your cigars in cello or with the cello removed. The second is, how do you cut a La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Chisel? Do you make like Rush Limbaugh and pinch the sides popping the cap, do you use a bullet punch on the top side, or bottom […]

Each year that Davidoff releases their limited edition Year of the Series I can’t help but chuckle as it is a cigar ahead of its time. Despite being November, 2018 the cigar is billed as a 2019 Limited Edition. This year marks the seventh time that Davidoff has released a cigar in conjunction with the Chinese New Year, and only 3,000 boxes of 10 cigars have been released in the U.S. market. Without further delay, […]
The term Hors d’Age means “beyond time” and it best describes the components of highest quality where time is the key to reach the highest level of perfection in them. It’s a term more commonly used with Cognac but it works with this cigar. For the La Aurora Hors d’Age 2017, all the tobacco was grown in 2006 and the cigars were rolled in 2017 where they have aged at the first cigar factory of the […]
The ring gauge of a cigar is based on fractions of an inch. A cigar like a robusto is a 50 ring gauge, or 50/64th of an inch. EP Carrillo in 2012 launched the creation of the INCH line, with the ring gauge being 64/64 or, one INCH. At the 2018 IPCPR the company unveiled a Nicaraguan Puro called The Ringmaster for national distribution. Cigar Review: EP Carrillo Inch The Ringmaster Wrapper: Nicaragua Filler: Nicaragua Binder: Nicaragua Length: 5 […]
On the November 10th Episode of The Cigar Authority we welcomed to the show Kristoff representative John Fazzi to the show. During the course of the show we smoked the Connecticut Corona which was released in March of 2018. Cigar Review: Kristoff Connecticut […]
The Taino is a joint effort between father, Anthony Serino (Serino Royale) and son, Carson Serino (Wayfarer). The name pays tribute to the indigenous people of the Caribbean, known as the Tainos who are believed to be the first to smoke tobacco. It’s a cigar that we at The Cigar Authority got to smoke at various stages along the blending process and we have long been interested in smoking the finished product. It’s made at the La Corona factory […]
Earlier this year Jochy Blanco’s La Galera Cigars announced a limited production line called The Cubes which features some of his favorite vitolas. With each cube containing 50 cigars, only 333 boxes would be made. Cigar Review: La Galera Maduro Wrapper: Mexico (San Andres) Binder: Dominican Republic (Piloto Cubano) […]
