Catelli Boxare Maduro comes from Catelli Cigar Company. The Boxare line was originally introduced around 2016 and marked Catelli’s first foray into a box-pressed blend. This Maduro expression features a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler.
A dark brown maduro wrapper presented in a firm box-pressed shape. The cigar features a shaggy foot and feels densely packed in the hand, with slight toothiness visible on the wrapper.
Cedar wood, white pepper, leather, and a light saltiness are prominent right out of the gate. As it settles, a sweet creaminess develops alongside dark cocoa powder, fig, and hints of floral notes and raisin.
Earth and leather move to the forefront while white pepper remains present early in the transition. Flavors of caramel popcorn, nutmeg, and sweet dark chocolate cream emerge as the pepper fades, even through the nose. Lingering sweetness combines with salt, earth, cashew, leather, chocolate graham crackers, and milk chocolate. Notes of light roast coffee continue, with raisin still present and subtle hints of sweet bourbon rounding things out.
Oak and leather dominate in the final stretch. A slight pasta water–like saltiness returns as the mild white pepper fades away. Sweet dark chocolate cream lingers, leaving a hot cocoa–style sweetness on the finish, joined by mint chocolate, earthy tones, and bread-like notes.
The Catelli Boxare Maduro Toro very enjoyable cigar and overall smoking experience. Balanced and easygoing while still rich and flavorful, it’s an excellent choice for smokers who enjoy nuance without overwhelming strength. The cigar starts out a bit aggressive but quickly mellows. Construction is excellent, with a perfect burn, good draw, and strong smoke output. The lingering flavors keep pulling me back for another puff. A fantastic smoke that the STARS would gladly return to again.
