Davidoff Announces International Tour Gastronomique in 2016

Davidoff proudly launches its international Tour Gastronomique 2016

Following the huge success achieved over the past years, Oettinger Davidoff is delighted to announce its first ever international Tour Gastronomique in 2016. The Davidoff Tour Gastronmique will visit the Dominican Republic, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg and Spain and will be a vibrant, imaginative celebration of culinary delights accompanied by a very special gourmet cigar.

Basel/Altos de Chavón (Dominican Republic), January 2016. “The Davidoff Tour Gastronomique rejoices in those moments when Caribbean and European cultures fuse to create something with a distinctive personality and unique flavour. In 2016 our new programme includes a series of events marked by excellent food, exciting guests and premium cigars for the bon vivant to share with like-minded people combining the very best of Caribbean and European art and cuisine,” explains Paloma Szathmáry, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communication at Oettinger Davidoff AG.
Fittingly, the tour kicks-off at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas in the Dominican Republic with the Art & Gourmet weekend. The weekend’s key events are the Art & Gourmet Cocktail on Friday 19th February in Altos de Chavón, where Davidoff’s International Art Residency is located, and the Davidoff White Gourmet Night on Saturday 20th February at Minitas Beach, Casa de Campo.

On Friday, guests are invited to tour the open art studios before being treated to a flying buffet dinner of signature dishes, enhanced by cocktails, wine and freshly rolled Davidoff cigars. In the spirit of the tour, Swiss and Dominican chefs will work side by side to create a superb feast, so Anthony Masas, Executive Chef of Casa de Campo (the resort with six restaurants where guests will stay) will cook with Peter Knogl, the renowned three-Michelin-star and 19 GaultMillau Swiss Chef from the Cheval Blanc of Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois in Basel/Switzerland.

To nurture the spirit of Caribbean-European harmony further, on Saturday the Davidoff White Gourmet Night at Minitas Beach, Casa de Campo will treat guests to a five-course banquet with exclusive wines prepared by Peter Knogl, spiced up by local Caribbean beats, fine rums and freshly rolled cigars. The night marks the global launch of a limited edition special cigar created exclusively by six international chefs for the Davidoff Tour Gastronomique.

Altos de Chavón and the Davidoff Art Initiative
Exactly one year ago, the Davidoff International Art Residency in collaboration with the Altos de Chavón School of Design was inaugurated. This was a major step for the Davidoff Art Initiative and the aim to provide greater international recognition for the cultural community in the Dominican Republic. The Davidoff Art Initiative has selected four artists and two curators to take part in its second International Art Residency Program in Altos de Chavón between 25th January and 3rd April 2016. The artists are Paolo Chiasera from Italy, Louis Henderson from Britain, Jimmy Robert from France and Oscar Santillan from Ecuador, and the curators are Natasha Ginwala from India and Polly Staple from Great Britain. The six represent international artistic talent across a broad spectrum ranging from painting, collage and photography to video, installation and performance. The four artists will take part in a curatorial project and they share with their curators a profound interest in engaging with the social and cultural fabric of the Dominican Republic through their art and activities. They have all been chosen for their ability to contribute to the stimulating trade in ideas that Altos de Chavón and the Davidoff Art Initiative seek to foster.

Davidoff Tour Gastronomique goes to Europe
The tour continues in Switzerland on 14th April at the new restaurant IGNIV by Andreas Caminada at the Bad Ragaz Grand Resort where Renato Wüst (15 GaultMillau) will present a special Cigar Night to celebrate his becoming GaultMillau CigarMan of the Year 2016. On 30th May the tour moves on to Zürich for a special evening of Rhythm, Intrigue and Originality aboard the Davidoff Ship on which chef Antonio Colaianni (17 GaultMillau) provides a feast of culinary delights to complement Davidoff’s Escurio, a cigar with a lively, distinctive blend of Brazilian tobaccos. On 8th September the tour travels to Geneva for an evening at Restaurant Bayview, where resident Michelin star chef (18 GaultMillau) and Winner of GaultMillau Best Newcomer of West Switzerland, Michel Roth, presides over a soirée to celebrate the launch of an exciting new product. The soirée’s theme will be Dream, Dare, Discover, and guests will be invited to conclude the evening with drinks and cigars on the Hotel President Wilson’s iconic rooftop with breathtaking views over the lake. Finally, on 29th September, an evening at Tropenhaus in Wolhusen (14 GaultMillau) will feature a Caribbean-European fusion dinner, showcasing the skills of resident chef Andreas Halter and reuniting him with Michelin star chef and 18 GaultMillau, Othmar Schlegel, of Locanda Barbarosse – Castello del Sole in Ascona.

In the summer, the tour will continue travelling around Europe, starting on 4th June, in Germany, when golf and cuisine collide at the iconic Golf Club Beuerberg close to Munich. Guests can play alongside VIPs in a specially organised tournament or get advice from one of Beuerberg’s golf professionals before a gourmet banquet presented by Michelin-starred chefs.

On 9th June, in Madrid, Dominican-born chef Maria Marte, the only female chef in Spain to have two Michelin stars, invites guests to celebrate her collaboration with Davidoff by cooking dinner at the renowned restaurant Club Allard, where the former King of Spain is known to dine.

Finally, on 23rd June in Luxembourg, Michelin-starred TV chef and food critic Léa Linster will open her Restaurant Léa Linster, for the evening to celebrate her collaboration with the Davidoff Chefs Edition cigar, teaming up with her son, Louis, to present the very first Luxembourgian Davidoff Tour Gastronomique soirée.
